Dr Carsten Schulte joins Gowling WLG as new IP partner

27 April 2017

Schulte joins from US law firm Fish & Richardson, where he specialised in patent litigation. He has experience in all of Gowling WLG's focus sectors, including high-tech, automotive, consumer goods, pharma, and healthcare, making him an excellent addition to the team.

Dr Carsten Schulte said: "Gowling WLG's IP team has a strong reputation for representing outstanding clients globally. They work on many compelling cases from the US market, which is extremely important in the area of technology. I am very much looking forward to being a part of this team and especially to contributing my expertise to cross-border cases."

An expert in patent law, Dr Schulte specialises in contentious and non-contentious matters related to technical IP rights. For more than 15 years, he has represented clients in the high-tech and life sciences industries, among others, before all relevant German and European courts. He has substantial experience of patent litigation on a pan-European basis, and particular expertise in cases involving US corporations enforcing and defending their patent rights across Europe.

Gordon Harris, head of the IP practice group at Gowling WLG, says: "Carsten Schulte is a great addition to our European IP practice. We are delighted to welcome such an experienced patent litigator to our team in Munich."

Carsten Schulte's arrival comes on the back of Gowling WLG further strengthening its leading IP practice with partners Céline Bey in Paris and Sheena Jacob in Singapore, who leads JurisAsia with which Gowling WLG recently formed an exclusive association. In Germany, Gowling WLG opened an office in March in Stuttgart, headed up by corporate partner Dr Andreas Woelfle.

In addition to Dr Carsten Schulte, Gowling WLG has recently added two associates and one director to its practice in Germany, with more set to join later in 2017.
