Asif Lasani

Asif Lasani is a partner in Gowling WLG's Hamilton office whose practice focuses on commercial, administrative and regulatory disputes and remedies in the education, health, and commercial sectors.

Asif routinely assists clients in a wide array of commercial disputes, including construction, contract, procurement, shareholder, commercial tenancy, and property disputes (including expropriation matters on behalf of property owners, business owners, tenants or otherwise), as well as negligence and professional liability claims. He also acts as tribunal counsel and advises institutions on administrative tribunal structure and procedure. Asif remains actively engaged in matters at the Superior Court of Ontario (including appeals), Provincial Offences Court, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, the License Appeal Tribunal and other tribunals governed by the Statutory Powers Procedure Act.

Asif acts for a number of public and quasi-public institutions (including Universities, School Boards, Hospitals and Hydro Utilities), regularly advising such clients in respect of commercial (including construction), administrative and regulatory dispute matters. Asif has developed extensive expertise advising such institutions in respect of their rights and obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Personal Health Information Protection Act, the Broader Public Sector Accountability Act (including the Broader Public Sector Procurement Directive), and the Expropriations Act in relation to disputes and potential disputes.

Asif is a member of the Hamilton Law Association, the Hamilton Lawyers Club, the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Association of University Solicitors, the Canadian Condominium Institute (Golden Horseshoe Chapter) and the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. He is a Council member representing the Central South Region for the Ontario Bar Association and sits on its Audit, Governance, and Leadership and Recognition Committees. Asif serves on the Board of Directors for Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton and is its Treasurer.
