ThinkHouse Foundations Spring Seminar - Birmingham

Seminar

ThinkHouse Foundations is Gowling WLG's tailored programme for in-house paralegals, trainees and lawyers of up to five years' PQE. The seminars give you the opportunity to meet new contacts, exchange ideas and develop your network with legal professionals that are at the same stage of career as you.

Landlord and Tenant - Start to Finish
Hannah Ghafari and David Wigy will explore how landlords and tenants can approach key commercial terms in leases, and will show you how to negotiate these to get the best possible results for your business. They will also discuss how to prepare for lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, and some of the potential pitfalls of exercising break options.

Competition law - What do you need to know?
James Stunt and Stefan Dior will provide an overview of some of the current trends and issues in UK competition law.  They will also provide insights into the key considerations for businesses in navigating these complex issues and the practical steps that you can take to help ensure your activities are compliant with UK competition law.

AI: Don't be afraid!
AI technology is having huge impacts worldwide and is reshaping and revolutionising how we all work. The legal industry is notoriously risk adverse and tech-nervous, so Jess Goodwin from Avail will cover some of the key opportunities and risks AI gives to our industry. She'll also showcase the best and safest ways lawyers can adopt AI in such a fast advancing and complex technological era.

IP contract fundamentals: Common issues in common agreements
This session will be aimed at in-house lawyers who may encounter transfers and licensing of IP and collaborations but who may be less familiar with IP or the specific issues that can arise when dealing in IP rights. The speakers will address: the different kinds of IP arrangements you may encounter; the differences between assignments and licences; key definitions, concepts and watchouts when it comes to contracting with IP rights; ownership issues; how you can protect your client and mitigate risk; and practical tips, drawing on our experience working on a vast range of IP contracts.
