SmartRaise™ shortlisted for FT Innovative Lawyers Awards North America 2017

12 December 2017

SmartRaise™, Gowling WLG's streamlined private placements tool, has been shortlisted for the 2017 FT Innovative Lawyers Award (North America). Presented annually by the Financial Times, the award distinguishes standout innovations in the global legal industry.

"As the first platform of its kind capable of automating all the legal documents associated with private placements in Canada, Smart Raise™ has been met with enthusiasm from clients across a range of sectors," said Ian Palm, Gowling WLG partner and project co-lead. "We're honoured that the Financial Times has recognized the significant potential of this innovation by shortlisting us for this important award."

Created entirely in-house and launched in July 2017, Smart Raise™ leverages Gowling WLG's extensive precedents database to generate all the legal documents needed for private placements — while meeting compliance requirements across Canada. By automating the repetitive tasks associated with document generation, Smart Raise™ enables issuers, agents and other market participants to raise capital on a greatly reduced timeline.

Winners of this year's FT Innovative Lawyers Awards (North America) were announced yesterday evening at a ceremony in New York City.

With cutting-edge approaches to legal service like Practical LPM and XClaim and an extensive roster of forthcoming products, Gowling WLG is dedicated to harnessing innovative tools and creative thinking to deliver more cost-certainty, efficiency and value to our clients.

Last year, the Financial Times ranked Gowling WLG as one of the top two most innovative law firms in Europe at its FT European Innovative Lawyers Awards, and in 2015 the firm was shortlisted in the "Innovation in the Business of Law: Redesigning the Service Model" category at the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards (North America). In 2015, Gowling WLG also took home the OpenText Elite Award for Most Innovative Project in the Legal Sector.
